Meet the Founder

My name is Janet Mulei, and I’m the founder of the Born to Shine Foundation, Kenya. Here’s my story:
For years, my family and I supported a local orphanage, bringing food and clothes whenever we could, and the children were always grateful. Over time, I realized that simply providing material support, as meaningful as it was, wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to make a deeper impact—one that would truly change their lives.

Inspired by my own children and those at the school I’ve been running for years, I came up with an idea to create a program that would give these children the chance to step outside their
usual environment and discover their own gifts and talents. I wanted them to feel empowered, to understand that they are just as capable as any other child—despite not having the same opportunities.

In January 2019, Born to Shine Foundation, Kenya, was born. Through this program, I believe the children can build a sense of self-worth and confidence and realize that the world is full of endless possibilities. My greatest desire is that they grow knowing and understanding that they too, can dream big and achieve great things in their future. My desire is to kindle a ray of hope, and Let their Light Shine!
